ACT Awareness and ACT Security e-Learning are now available in one place on ProtectUK, providing comprehensive counter-terrorism training. In response to ongoing terrorism concerns, the UK has maintained vigilance, implementing measures for citizen safety.
The ACT Awareness initiative, launched in 2018, aims to enhance public vigilance against terrorist tactics. It gained renewed attention due to discussions around ‘Martyn’s Law’ or Protect Duty, which assesses venue security. Following the conclusion of the ‘Martyn’s Law’ consultation process, (due to conclude on 18th March) the Government will introduce the Bill to Parliament as soon as parliamentary time allows.
Despite concerns about the financial impact on venues, the Perimeter Security Suppliers Association (PSSA) advocates for the training’s importance, arguing that it’s a minimal but crucial investment in safety.
The free ACT Awareness e-Learning includes six main modules covering the terrorism threat landscape, security vulnerabilities, suspicious activities, bomb threats, firearms or weapons assaults, and additional learning material. The course is interactive, flexible, and ends with a nationally accredited certificate. Similarly, the ACT Security e-Learning offers specialized training for security operatives, accessible without needing a pin from Monday 5th February. It takes approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes to complete, supporting flexible learning by allowing users to pause and save progress. Together, these courses cover all counter-terrorism content for SIA licence-linked qualifications and top-up training, accessible via the ProtectUK e-Learning hub.
