PSSA Bulletin - Issue 2

From the Chairman Security to be in focus in 2023 - with Protect Duty legislation to be progressed Towards the close of 2022, Figen Murray received a much appreciated phone call from the third Prime Minister of the year, Rishi Sunak. In it, he stated his support to ease the passage of legislation to bring Protect Duty (Martyn’s Law) on to the Statute Book. This was a timely commitment when it could have been caught in the backwash of so much government change and many other pressing priorities. We welcome Figen back to our next Interact Day on 31st January – along with several Counter Terrorism Security Advisers (CTSAs). PSSA members wanted our organisation to build on our existing CTSA links, so it will be another step forward to formally involve them in our sessions. Our Council has approved the setting up of new sub-committees covering Finance, Membership Structure. As we have grown considerably over the last few years, it makes sense to divide up some of the responsibilities. Members can join discussions on our future structure and activities at our AGM on 30th January, before our pre-Interact Day networking dinner at our regular venue of Ardencote. In this issue of our Bulletin there are some excellent case studies and examples of how members have prospered in international markets. There is also a sporting theme with pieces on security projects related to football and rugby venues – and a post-World Cup article on how to approach Middle East markets. Coincidentally, I write this whilst preparing to visit this year’s Intersec Dubai event. This will be the first of many opportunities this year to meet up with PSSA members and other valuable industry contacts. That just leaves me to wish you a very happy and prosperous 2023.
