– 21 – Open doors at Avon Barrier customer day With events in full swing again in the UK, Avon Barrier invited new and old customers to an informative and hands on day in Bristol. Avon Barrier’s, Jo Smallwood writes for PSSA Most of us are getting back to the office, attending events and networking again. At Avon Barrier, we decided to take the opportunity to open our doors and invite our customers to Bristol for the day. Reconnecting with existing customers and welcoming some new friends! Our customer days gave our guests an update of our products and services, a chance for some hands on demonstrations, with over 14 different products available to see. We also had the benefit of enjoying two informative and entertaining guest speakers. Overall, it was also a great networking opportunity. Welcoming our Customers Guest Speakers We were delighted to have as our first speaker, Russell Phillips LCGI, MSyI, from Island Site Protective. Russ is a former UK police subject matter expert on hostile vehicle mitigation. Until recently, having retired from the police, he was part of the National Vehicle Threat Mitigation Unit which sits within National Counter Terrorism Police Headquarters. A former experienced Counter Terrorism Security Coordinator (CT Secco) and a CT Risk Manager in the private sector. He has set up Island Site Protective as a consultancy dealing with all aspects of counter terrorism whilst specialising in HVM. Russ presented a captivating and informative insight into Counter Terrorism and Hostile Vehicle Mitigation. It was also a pleasure to welcome our second speaker, Paul Jeffrey, PSSA chairman, as many of you are aware Paul was Managing Director of Avon Barrier for over 20 years and we were delighted to welcome him back to promote the valuable work and benefits of being part of the PSSA. We understand that at least one new member to the PSSA was recruited following our event. Hands on with Avon Barrier products The CityProtector and SSF100 Super Shallow Bollard were on display, highlighting their shallow depths and their removable options. On our outside demo area was our new Avon Universal Cedar Gate, this recent redesign incorporates universal handing frames and a universal boom, making installation even easier and eliminating the need for our customers to pre request either a left or right handed option. This redesign is exclusive to Avon Barrier and recently retested to IWA 14-1 and passed the Vehicle Access Delay Standard (VADS). Our new range of gates, to be manufactured in Bristol were demonstrated including the bi-folding EntraQuick II and the EntraQuick Mobile, which is a unique temporary gate solution, simple to deployed, able to move and reuse, easy to store and available to rent! Overall, the feedback that we received from everyone that attended was very positive and we were pleased with the success of our first Customer Days, so much so that we are planning to make it a regular event.
