T: 01622 734215 E: W: Martyn’s Law by Figen Murray PAGE 3 Frontier Pitts – the year that was 2020! PAGE 6 It has been good to see many membership applications from Australia in the last few months and I know that this is, in no small part, due to the efforts of Heng Jiang Cheng from MFD Thornton Tomasetti who has been driving the need for an improved professionalism and a more levelled playing field in HVM implementation. Our involvement with the Counter Terror Business 365 management security event was well received and we are looking forward to the final review and subsequent implementation of the “Protect Duty” law (Martyn’s Law) as I feel that this will significantly improve the industry. We are 100% behind ‘Martyn’s Law’ and, in this issue, Figen Murray the mother of Martyn Hett, who was tragically killed in the Manchester Arena terror attack in 2017, tells us of her journey and her hopes for the inquiry and the government-backed proposed legislation. Judging in the OSPAs awards has now been completed and we will wait and see the overall outcome in February 21, unfortunately we had no members in the nominations for the awards that we were judging, and I hope that we can change this in next year’s awards. Finally, it was with great sadness that we heard of the passing of Jeff Howells. Jeff was one of the HVM industry’s ever-present personalities, liked by everyone that knew him, he will be sorely missed by us all. On behalf of its members, the PSSA sends its sincerest condolences to his family and friends for their sad loss. Have the best Christmas and New Year you can and let’s all look forward to the delivery of the vaccination and a much better 2021. Paul Jeffrey Chairman That was the year that was Dear All, hopefully, you have all come through 2020 safe and well and are looking forward to 2021, if only on the basis that it cannot be any worse than this year.
