The President of the United States, Donald Trump arrived in the UK for a two-day working visit and a weekend of golf during the Summer. The UK Security Services & Police were tasked with organising security and ensuring appropriate protective measures were put in place to mitigate against both terrorist attacks and any unlawful protests. The National Counter Terrorism Police HQ, working in partnership with host police forces, took the decision to deploy the National Barrier Asset, (which now sits under the National Vehicle Threat Mitigation Unit) to protect four key locations simultaneously that the US President would visit– Windsor Castle, Winfield House, Blenheim Palace & Turnberry Golf Course.
With only three weeks’ notice, the NVTMU worked closely with their contractor H2S2 (Hardstaff Barriers & Highway Care Joint Venture) to ensure robust planning and design of the security measures, which included Fencing and HVM. This also included working out the logistics for simultaneous delivery in both England and Scotland and co-ordination works with 3 different Police Forces (Metropolitan Police Service, Thames Valley Police & Police Scotland).
At the conclusion of the build, the team successfully installed and removed, a HVM Drop Arm Gate, 7 HVM Swing Arm Gates, 620m of PAS 68 Rated Security Fencing and 504m of PAS 68 Temporary Vehicle Restrain Barrier.
