PSSA Security Interact Day Report

PSSA Security Interact Day Report

19th June 2019 by Robert Bennison

A report from the PSSA Security Interact Day

The PSSA Security Interact Day on June 12th achieved the intention of linking different aspects of perimeter security, with presentations on academic options, CPNI updates, cyber security with perimeter access and the importance of consulting in the security industry.

Paul Jeffrey, PSSA Chairman, commented: “This was another successful and well attended PSSA event! From the feedback I received on the day, everyone seemed to enjoy both the Interact Seminar and the networking dinner the night before. I am already very much looking forwards to the next Interact event and we have a number of very interesting presenters and topics being lined up for next time.”

The Interact Day began with a background to terrorist attacks and how they have developed over time was provided by Tim Wilson and Nick Brooke from The Handa Centre for the Study of Terrorism and Political Violence with thought points on how past information can be used to further develop perimeter security products. More information on the Certificate in Terrorism Studies can be found here which is aimed at the vocational sector.

Updates on C-VAW (counter vehicle as a weapon) and UAS (unmanned aerial systems) were given by CPNI representatives.

Jason Hunter and Richard Huison from Gallagher explained the impact of insufficient cyber protection on perimeter security. The result of this on both digital and physical perimeters will be followed up so more information will be available. Find more information here on Gallagher security solutions.

The day was brought to a close with Gary Heward from MFD International focussing on the importance of appropriate and proportionate perimeter protection. Contact MFD for more information on security requirements.

Thanks to all attendees and presenters. We look forward to welcoming everyone at the next Security Interact Day in December. Further information will be issued soon.
