Hostile Vehicle Mitigation deployment on London Bridges

Hostile Vehicle Mitigation deployment on London Bridges

21st May 2018 by Louise Carney

In June of last year, the Metropolitan Police requested that H2S2 Ltd install Hostile Vehicle Mitigation (‘HVM’) barrier systems to protect eight Thames Bridges with immediate effect.

Barriers were delivered into London on that same evening. This project was delivered through the National Barrier Asset Framework where Hardstaff Barriers operate in Joint Venture with Highway Care Limited as H2S2 Limited. The installation was supported a supplier to H2S2 Limited, Asset International, a sister company of Hardstaff Barriers Ltd.

Over the following week HVM products were installed on London bridges over the Thames at Westminster Bridge; Vauxhall Bridge; Lambeth Bridge; Waterloo Bridge; Blackfriars Bridge; Southwark Bridge; Tower Bridge and London Bridge to protect and keep people safe. The rapid delivery of these key installations across London within a short timeframe astonished many stakeholders and exceeded expectations.

The scheme did not stop there as over the following months the team worked closely with stakeholders including the Police, councils and bridge owners to amending the deployments by implementing solutions to enable access to bridge chambers, installing expansion joints for bridge movements and relocations to minimise carriageway / footway and cycle way obstruction.
