Ezi Security Systems protects one of Sydney’s busiest tourist hotspots – Manly Beach and surrounding suburbs within New South Wales.
Only just a 30 minute-boat-ride away from Sydney CBD, Manly is home to one of the famous Sydney beach towns that offers an enticing range of bars, cafes and restaurants adjacent to the beach. This Northern Beaches suburb is also known for its world surfing competition, rows of Norfolk Island pine trees and the well-trodden The Corso where you will find tiny dive bars, boutiques and shops that suits the relaxed, outdoor lifestyle of the area.
With a number of key events held around the area, it is unquestionable why this Sydney suburb attracts 2.4 million tourists per year. With large numbers of tourists all year round, local council government saw the need to implement crowded spaces security strategies to mitigate public safety risks at major events and the need to improve pedestrian safety daily at the entrance to Manly Wharf.
In 2019, it was announced that bollards and other barriers would be installed around Manly to prevent any use of vehicles as a weapon for planned and unplanned attacks on crowded space. This is in response to government’s current National Terrorism Threat assessment stating that Australia’s current Terrorism Threat Level is ‘probable’.
The aforementioned project was funded by both the Australian Government and the Northern Beach Council to improve pedestrian safety daily at high foot traffic areas at the entrance to Manly Wharf, the bottom of The Corso and the main intersection of Sydney Road and Whistler Street. The Northern Beach Council worked collaboratively with the Local Police Area Command to ensure a strategy was developed to protect crowded space at these key sites as well as sensitive sites.
By November 2020, over 70 bollards were installed within a small construction time frame to ensure minimal disruption to local business due to the ease of installation of Safetyflex’s products. These bollards were installed in replacement to non-rated concrete barriers which were previously installed as a temporary alternative.
